If adopting a cat is not for you then
would you consider fostering a cat?
A foster carer provides a home for a cat or a kitten
temporarily until adoption.
A foster carer is responsible for meeting the daily needs
of the cat in their care. Additionally,
the carer will help to socialize the cat in the home environment - if that is necessary - and be
responsible for the general well-being of the cat. Specific responsibilities include feeding, cleaning,
grooming and playing with the cat, until the cat is adopted into a permanent home.
You will need the following attributes - based on RSPCA
standards...
A love of animals You should ideally have had experience of
owning a pet.
Patience A cat may be frightened or anxious in a new home
and you will need to give it time to settle and adjust.
Understanding and empathy You will need to understand what
the cat may have seen or been through, and aware that it may have been abused.
Dedication You will need to be prepared to look after a cat
for around six months - or possibly longer.
Extraordinary It takes a special person to be a fosterer.
