IDENTIFICATION
Under French law your cat must be tattooed with a registration number which goes onto
a national database.
(An electronic 'chip' implant will officially replace the tattoo in 2011 but is available now
as a valid means of identification for the lifetime of your pet.)
If your cat is lost and then found, but can't be identified,
your pet may face euthanasia if a refuge for re-homing can't be
found.
There are many stray cat charities and refuges, including caring individuals, right across France who want to help stray cats find new homes - so make the task easier for us by having your pet identified.

PET
PASSPORT
The tattoo, as a means of legal identification for a pet
passport, will be phased out at the end of 2010.
It will be replaced by the electronic chip implant (a transponder) in 2011.
However, even though your cat may be
already tattooed and on the French national data-base you will
have to micro-chip your cat - in addition to the existing tattoo - in 2012!
